tl ; dr , Overwatch on ultra had pushed both cards up into the upper 70*C range. And this was on a 4k monitor to make sure SLI played ball.

Meh, It’s fine. Modern cards will happily run at 80C without permanent damage.

Ah, gotcha. I was slightly worried as to why both cards reached 75-85*C on Epic.

My old lappy would hit 90C playing Crysis.

Modern cards are actually very hard to fry. They will limit their own performance once you reach a specified threshold to keep you from doing any damage. If you are really concerned about the temps you can set a more aggressive fan curve for the cards.

Yeah, 70C ain’t shit. Pascal cards don’t hit hard throttle until 83C.

The old Gen-1 Fermi cards used to get up to 95C and still be perfectly fine.

My new laptop can barely handle crysis because that game is so poorly optimized.

My HTC 960M hits 75+ and still rocks some good fps on high. Not 4k, but still pretty solid. Nvidia cards don’t mind a bit of heat until you mess with voltages IMO. Though that is all based on laptop cards.

I’ve been thinking about getting back into gaming specifically for Overwatch. I have a 4K monitor and a W7100 that’s basically a R9 285 with 8gb instead of 2gb. I saw a benchmark that said that’ll do 30 fps in 4K at ultra... What is the difference between medium and ultra like? Makes more sense to just run 1440p? Should I just be looking at another card? I need that FirePro for work, so basically o have room for one more card only.
